Day 3: I Hit the Snooze Button too Many Times

Today is Day 3 of my latest fitness journey and let me tell you adjusting to a new work schedule while trying to stay on top of my game has been a bit of a challenge. I recently switched from working late at night (like getting home at midnight or later) to leaving for work around seven in the morning — to say the least I am exhausted when I think about having to wake up at 5:30 to get my workout in before I leave for work, not to mention packing a healthy lunch.

However, I must say there is no better feeling than knowing that once I am off work I am free to do whatever I please because I started my day on the right foot — or rather right feet — I have heard the saying that checking off something on your to-do list first thing in the morning is the best foundation for a successful day.

So what exactly am I training for? The Hog-Eye Half Marathon in Fayetteville that takes place this spring. Let me give you a little back story first though. About 4 years ago I signed up for my first race greater than a 5K and I managed to get pretty far along in my training and tear a tendon… leaving me in a cast and basically imobile for an entire year. I didn’t give up there though; I decided that I would sign up for another one once I got better, then the unthinkable happened — I tore my tendon AGAIN one week before the race. It has been almost two years since my last serious injury and even though I was in a car accident in October I am determined that nothing is going to stop me from getting this race done.

I think moral of the story is that no matter how many setbacks you have in your fitness journey or even life  you can always put your best foot forward and accomplish your goals. Now, maybe it is not the way or amount of time that you want to accomplish it but, it is still getting done and that is all that really matters.

So here is to waking up at 5:30 in the morning and putting on my big girl pants and getting that workout done that way I can focus on my work and nutrition the rest of the day. So let’s all accomplish our goals together!
