Seven Closet Staples to Invest in this Year

IMG_5066IMG_5067

Let me start by saying that I am a sucker for versatile pieces. I’d much rather splurge a little on a piece clothing that I am able to wear twenty times with twenty different outfits. It truly is a great investment. Also, it is so lifesaving to have some basic items you can pair with literally everything when you are low on time. There are so many mornings where I either am running ten minutes behind, or I cannot come up with a suitable outfit to save my life. So, I just take my go-to basics, and I’m ready to go!

Everyone has a different style, but these seven staples are just easy breezy enough that everyone, despite our style differences, can rock them!

The Black T-shirt// A solid black t-shirt is a must-have in every wardrobe. I will live by this statement until the day I die. Black is the main color in my wardrobe palette because it simply goes with everything. A simple, nicely constructed black t-shirt (my favorite place to buy my t-shirts is Gap) can be worn so many ways. It is so great.

The Perfect Jeans // Oh my, I adore jeans, and you feel totally awesome when you have a great pair on. It’s true. I swear by it. This is one of those items I’m willing to splurge a little on. In my opinion, it is better to save up for jeans that will last you a lifetime rather than constantly having to buy ill-fitting, poor quality jeans. They are great because of their versatility. You can pair them with the black t-shirt, the jean jacket, and some trendy sneakers and have a casual street style look, or wear a flowy chiffon blouse and some heels or a more formal, going-out look. I recommend checking out ASOS or Gap for good deals on nice jeans. Also, if you are willing to spend more than $100, check out Madewell. They are well-known for their denim, and they do not disappoint.

The Jacket That Goes With (Almost) Everything // Jackets are so great for so many reasons. They add fantastic layers and textures to your outfits, and they can really pull a look together. Once you find that it jacket, the one that speaks to your soul, you’ll never want to take it off. I live in three jackets: a perfectly worn jean jacket, a field jacket, and a trench coat. I’ve just recently purchased a field jacket, and it is my new love. It goes with everything, so I totally knew it just had to be on this list.

The Stripe Shirt // At least half of my closet is filled with stripe shirts. I love them. I have one in almost every color. There is so much you can do with a striped shirt. I prefer ones with three-quarter sleeves for a more tailored look. If it is your first stripe shirt you are buying, stick with a classic black and white to be able to get the most use.

The Loveliest Pair Of Loafers // I wear a total of about six different styles of shoes, but my favorite are loafers. They are so comfortable, and they really deliver when it comes to style points. I have a black pair of Sam Edelman loafers that I wear almost every day. They have a gold bit on the top of shoes that really pulls it all together. They are classic!

The White Button-down // A slightly oversized, white button down is timeless. It is my go-to top when I am in a rush. I also just love wearing button downs in general. They make outfits look effortlessly put together. My favorite brand to buy high-quality button downs is Lauren Ralph Lauren. Their line of “no iron” shirts is perfect for me because let’s face it…if it is not completely necessary for me to iron, I am not going to do it. So being able to just throw it on without worrying about wrinkles is great. Pairing it with jeans, loafers, and a field jacket or trench coat is perfect for a day of shopping or museum visiting.

The Little Black Dress // It has been said since the beginning of time and rightly so, that a woman cannot live without the perfect little black dress. My favorite black dress is from ASOS. It’s a simple shift with a little bit of flare on the bottom. I can pair it with loafers or ballet flats for a more casual, daytime look, and for dressier events, I go with a pair of chic black heels. Also, a trench coat always looks great with this dress. The contrast between the beige and black is simply fantastic.

These basic pieces are great to invest in for many reasons. They are classic and timeless, so as time goes on and trends move by, you’ll always be able to wear them, no matter the day or age.
